In her unique conversational tone Michelle Korenfeld outlines the 5E’s. Those are 5 core practices for fostering children’s and youth’s creativity. Explore – Introducing learning by a story, short lecture or the use of technology. Experience – fun experiments, coloring and drawing or experiential activities. All to ignite children to draw on their own ideas. Examine – Checking the ideas the kids drew on with them. Elevate – Recommending how to take the ideas to the next level. And finally, Express – Interactively inviting kids to present their ideas, talk about them, or write creatively. With those principles in mind your path is set for directing children into creative problem solving – a vital skill for potential fulfillment.
The 5E’s strategy has developed through Michelle’s years of creative practice and through mentoring gifted kids. Creativity education has been practiced in gifted institutions for long. Michelle believes it should be implemented for the benefit of all children. She finds that much aggression and anxiety derive from unexpressed creative potential. And aims her books for growing children curious, happy and successful. Need help meeting the challenges of raising creative kids? Michelle’s heartwarming paintings will connect you with the creative facilitator hidden inside you. The appendix offers STEAM lesson plans for fascinating children with issues such as energy and global warming. It was developed with the help of Dr. Moshe Rishpon, who established the Clore Garden of Science and The Science Oriented Youth Department in the Weizmann Institute. This unit is a pioneer program in science education, and a leader of the field worldwide.
