[1951] to 1970, 38 issues, 30pp - 40pp each issue, photographs (some in colour) & diagrams, light card covers, the later issues with a metal badge affixed to the front cover, in 8 official dark blue leatherette binders with gilt titles to spines, the last issue (Volume 10 No 2) loose. In fine condition, with some wear to the binders. Some minor annotations to the covers noted, in particular 'Record Copy' to one. The United Steel Companies Limited were a steel making & engineering group which was based in Sheffield and was founded in the 1920s. It was nationalised twice. The first time was in February 1951 when it became part of the Iron & Steel Corporation of Great Britain but this was reversed in 1953. The second time was under the Iron & Steel Act 1967 when it became part of British Steel. Railway Steel Topics was a 'magazine of an intimate nature published by a producing company for the benefit of technicians and railway operatives' (Editorial Volume 1 No 1) and contained articles on all manner of railway related topics including the History of the Yorkshire Engine Company Limited (Vol 1 No1), Stainless Steel for Re-roofing of Victoria Station, Sheffield (Vol 2 No 4), Girder Bridges on British Railways (Vol 3 No 2), Railway Expansion in India (Vol 5 No 1) and Underground Railway Construction (Vol 10 No 1). It was issued biannually from Volume 2 onwards starting in Summer 1953, the 4 issues in Volume 1 are not dated but assuming that these were also published biannually the series started in 1951. The last issue we have is Volume 10 No 2 which was published in January 1970. This is loose in the last binder as it is slightly taller than previous issues and so does not fit! A copy of Volume 10 No 3 is held by both the British Library and the Bodleian and this would appear to be the final issue. It seems that no library has a complete set, the British Library is missing Vol 1 No 1 and Vol 1 No 3 so ours may be the most complete still extant.
