A braggy crab. A clever seahorse. One unforgettable race!
Meet Abby the Braggy Crab, the fastest creature on Mermaid Reef—and she knows it! Abby can run, swim, dig, and race better than everyone she meets. But when a tiny seahorse named Skip challenges her to a swimming race, everyone knows he doesn't stand a chance.
Seahorses are among the slowest swimmers in the sea, so how could Skip possibly beat Abby?
In this fun, rhyming, underwater twist on The Tortoise and the Hare, Skip shows that winning isn't always about being the fastest or strongest. Sometimes, the smartest way forward is to think creatively, use your strengths, and keep going.
With colorful illustrations, memorable sea-creature characters, and a surprise twist, The Race on Mermaid Reef is an entertaining read-aloud that also introduces children to fascinating ocean animals and the power of clever problem-solving.
Dive into a story kids will love to hear again and again!

Readers' Favorite Five-Star Review:
Young readers will enjoy the competitive nature of the sea creatures and discover fun facts about them. The story encourages critical thinking and the development of strategic problem-solving skills. Tamara Rittershaus has crafted characters that children can relate to and an engaging plot that will excite them. The colorful illustrations bring the underwater world to life, captivating children and keeping them engrossed in the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend sharing it with children to teach them the importance of being strategic and working smart rather than hard.
How will Skip’s smart thinking—and steady perseverance—turn the tide?
