Add to basketA nice, collectible copy of an early printing with the original design for the front cover and spine of the dust jacket. Size: 7.5"-8" - Small Octavo (Sm. 8vo). 870 pages. Text block is tight and unmarked, though the pages have toned with age. Bound in dark blue cloth with a diagonal pattern with starts embossed on the cover and spine and an eagle stamped in bright gilt on the front cover and title in bright gilt on the spine. I would rate this Near Fine, but there is a small (about a quarter inch) cut at the head of the spine (not affecting the title). The unclipped ($2.50) dust jacket (No. 2539-37) has shallow chips at the head and fot of the folds and some small (about a quarter inch) tears at the foot of the spine. The colors N.C. Wyeth's paintings on the front and rear panels are bright. However, there are some spots on the clouds on the front and the rear is spotted and dirty from handling or exposure. The colors on the spine have faded to green from exposure to sunlight. The folds are quite dark from exposure. The jacket is now protected in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. The top page edges are stained green. The side page edges are deckled (rough cut). Illustrator: N.C. Wyeth (dust jacket art). Quantity Available: 1.
