Finely-bound by M.M. Holloway, London. Covers bordered in gilt chains, French fillets. Elaborate floral designs at corners with swirls and loops , dots and circles just central to the fillets. Central inlaid monogram of owner "F.H.L.". Flower petals of inlaid blue, butterscotch, and red leathers. Spine with six gilt panels, inlaid floral designs, and leather spine label. Inner dentelles and marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Ink name on front pastedown, "Frances Howet Loyd" (sic), the obvious owner of the binding. Small book-plate of a later owner as well. Minor rubbing at front hinge. Spine with very minor fading of the leather, slight rub of the label. Corners show minor wear. Pencil notations on verso of front free endpaper, probably from an earlier bookseller. Illustrations by Birket Foster, Harrison Weir, and others. Ornamental headings by Noel Humphreys and Thomas Marquoid. Published by Joseph Cundall with his monogram on the copyright page. Printed by Richard Clay. Quite a lovely binding of this second edition, published in the same year as the first edition.
