Este libro estudia métodos para explicar los valores de una variable estadística en función de otras. En primer lugar se abordan los modelos de diseño experimental, que analizan si un conjunto de factores, determinados por el investigador, afecta a la respuesta media de una variable continua. En segundo lugar se presentan los modelos de regresión, donde se estudia la relación entre una variable respuesta y un conjunto de variables explicativas que, en general, no son controladas por el investigador. El libro se ha escrito como texto para un segundo curso cuatrimestral de Estadística, está enfocado hacia las aplicaciones e incluye el análisis de muchos datos reales que el estudiante puede bajarse de la web.
About the Author: Daniel Peña es catedrático de Estadística en la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, de la que es rector desde 2007, y ha sido catedrático en las Universidades Politécnica de Madrid, Wisconsin-Madison y Chicago. Es miembro electo del International Statistical Institute y Fellow del Institute of Mathematical Statistics y The American Statistical Association. Del mismo autor Alianza Editorial ha publicado también Fundamentos de Estadística y Regresión y diseño de experimentos.
