Item description from seller

[England, c.1820.] Fob seal, cut agate (length approx. 3.2cm, matrix approx. 2 x 2.3cm) matrix initialled “R S”, octagonal matrix with dog-tooth border, original steel-lined gold suspension loop, very good. This stylish Regency-era fob seal of c.1820 bears the initials “R S” on an octagonal matrix. Cut from a single piece of salmon-coloured agate, it exhibits a clean, neoclassical aesthetic. The original gold suspension loop remains intact. Fob seals of this sort, for impressing wax when sealing letters and documents, were attached to a gentleman’s waistcoat fob chain, together with other accoutrements, terminating in a pocket watch.
