472pp Reforming American lawyer, Robins lived for 25 years in the slums of Chicago campaigning for labour reform, women's suffrage, housing and the Progressive party. In 1917 he was appointed to the American Red Cross Commission to Russia and witnessed the Russian Revolution. He met Lenin and Trotsky and was sympathetic to the revolution.
