Review
This handbook provides practical and technical background on the new cataloguing standard, Resource Description and Access (RDA), a set of guidelines that provide instructions for descriptive cataloguing. Techniques are illustrated with b&w screen shots throughout. The book begins with material on the rationale for a new cataloguing code and looks at the differences between AACR2 and the new standard. The handbook then presents implementation strategies, delving into functional requirements for bibliographic records and providing details on how to identify manifestations and items, and works and their creators. There is also a section on how to browse and search the RDA Toolkit, which is an online product that allows users to interact with a collection of documents and resources related to cataloguing. The handbook closes with detailed checklists for copy cataloguers, original cataloguers, and authority control. (Reference and Research Book News)
This book on strategies for implementation of RDA is a practical guide. It provides useful information at a foundation level and will be useful for LIS teachers as well as for LIS students. (IFLA Education and Training Section Newsletter)
This book provides a good explanation of RDA... It should help cataloguers understand the new rules and how they differ from the old ones. (OLAC Newsletter)
...worthwhile as background reading for cataloguers and cataloguing departments moving into the adoption of RDA. (Australian Academic and Research Libraries)
