Discover how to raise a healthy, active, and well-adjusted Rainbow Lorikeet with practical guidance covering nutrition, housing, training, behavior, grooming, health, enrichment, breeding, and lifelong care.
RAINBOW LORIKEET HANDBOOK is a complete guide for beginners, experienced bird keepers, prospective owners, breeders, and anyone fascinated by these intelligent and brilliantly colored parrots. Raphael Hartley provides clear, practical information to help readers understand the specialized needs of Rainbow Lorikeets and create a responsible care routine from the beginning.
Rainbow Lorikeets are energetic, highly social birds known for their striking plumage, playful personalities, intelligence, and specialized brush-tipped tongues. Their dietary and behavioral requirements differ significantly from those of many seed-eating parrots, making informed husbandry especially important.
Inside this handbook, you’ll discover:
• Rainbow Lorikeet natural history, characteristics, intelligence, temperament, and communication
• How to determine whether a lorikeet suits your lifestyle, experience, time, and household
• What to look for when choosing a healthy bird from a responsible source
• Cage and aviary selection, placement, perches, accessories, ventilation, and environmental safety
• Understanding specialized lorikeet nutrition and the importance of appropriate nectar-based diets
• Incorporating suitable fruits, vegetables, and other appropriate foods into a balanced feeding program
• Food hygiene and why fresh diets require careful preparation and frequent cleaning
• Providing clean drinking and bathing water while maintaining excellent sanitation
• Understanding vocalizations, body language, social behavior, play, and territorial responses
• Building trust and using positive reinforcement for training
• Teaching stepping up, recall foundations, cooperative handling, and useful everyday behaviors
• Preventing boredom through toys, foraging opportunities, climbing, exploration, and mental challenges
• Grooming, bathing, nail and beak monitoring, feather care, and safe maintenance practices
• Recognizing normal molting and monitoring changes in feather condition
• Preventive avian veterinary care, quarantine, biosecurity, and routine health monitoring
• Recognizing changes in appetite, droppings, breathing, posture, activity, weight, feathers, or behavior
• Managing common behavioral challenges such as excessive screaming, biting, fear, and territorial behavior
• Safe socialization with household members and careful management around other pets
• Breeding readiness, compatible pairing, courtship, nest preparation, egg laying, and incubation
• Chick development, parental care, weaning, growth monitoring, and responsible placement
• Record keeping for weight, diet, behavior, breeding, veterinary care, and major husbandry changes
• Emergency planning, travel, temporary caregivers, and long-term ownership responsibilities
RAINBOW LORIKEET HANDBOOK emphasizes that these birds require much more than an attractive cage and occasional attention. Their intelligence, high activity levels, specialized diet, social needs, and demanding sanitation requirements require consistent daily commitment.
The book also encourages responsible breeding and ownership. Prospective keepers should consider lifespan, noise, mess, veterinary availability, local regulations, financial costs, and long-term care before acquiring a bird.
Whether you are preparing for your first Rainbow Lorikeet, improving an existing care routine, working through training challenges, or planning responsible breeding, this handbook provides a dependable foundation.
Understand your lorikeet’s behavior, provide appropriate nutrition, train with patience, create meaningful enrichment, and build a lifelong care routine that supports a healthy and rewarding relationship.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free.
