DJ is in mylar sleeve. Hardcover, 326pp, index, frontis portrait by Salvador Dali. B&W photos mostly of celebrities. Elsa Maxwell ( 1883 - 1963) was an American gossip columnist and author, songwriter, screenwriter, radio personality and professional hostess renowned for her parties for royalty and high society figures of her day. Maxwell is credited with the introduction of the scavenger hunt and treasure hunt for use as party games in the modern era. She appeared as herself in the films Stage Door Canteen (1943) and Rhapsody in Blue (1945), as well as co-starring in the film Hotel for Women (1939), for which she wrote the screenplay and a song. "I swore to myself I wpuld give great parties all over the world to which everyone would want to come, but the rich would be invited only if they had something more important to offer than money." An inveterate name-dropper, the book is peppered with celebrities. On page 15 there are no less than 10 names: ".when I was friendly with the [Duchess of Windsor]." Interior appears completely unmarked aside from two stamp markings in red on half title page and rear pastedown. Dust Jacket is unclipped with front illustration remaining bold and vibrant. SIGNED by Maxwell on the front free endpaper, and dated in 1958. Maxwell was a syndicated gossip columnist and the host of the radio program "Elsa Maxwell's Party Line."
