Jimmy Lai scored a 152 on the LSAT, graduated law school with a B-minus, failed the bar three times, and started posting on LinkedIn with 800 followers and zero confidence it would matter.
Quietly Influential is a LinkedIn playbook that has nothing to do with personal branding. It's the playbook Jimmy built along the way—not for people who want to become influencers, but for credentialed professionals who want to build something real without becoming someone they don’t recognize. Attorneys, doctors, engineers, accountants—people with real professional stakes, limited schedules, and a finely tuned radar for nonsense.
The professionals who think they’re not the type are exactly the type.
The book walks you through exactly what to do and in what order:
- optimize your profile,
- start with comments before you ever post,
- reframe the fear of visibility,
- build kindness as a compounding strategy,
- stop chasing vanity metrics,
- and turn lurkers into clients, hires, and opportunities you never saw coming.
The mental shift—get out of your own way without pretending to be someone you’re not.
A practical system—step-by-step and built for a professional’s actual schedule.
No hot takes or hustle. Just presence that works.
“In Quietly Influential, Jimmy Lai makes a powerful case that you don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to lead, influence, and build something meaningful. If you’ve ever felt like an outsider who had to find your own path to impact—this one’s for you.”
—Lorraine K. Lee, Keynote Speaker, Bestselling Author of Unforgettable Presence®, and Ex-Founding LinkedIn Editor
“Kindness, vulnerability, and generosity. Those are the first three words that come to mind when describing Jimmy. And the proof is in his posts. You were smart to get his book. After you finish it, go get to know everyone at the end.”
—Gyi Tsakalakis, President of AttorneySync and Host of Lunch Hour Legal Marketing
“Jimmy lays out EVERYTHING you need to know on LinkedIn. Not just the spark notes but the whole playbook! And hey, the only reason I’m even writing this is because I met Jimmy through him doing what he teaches here!”
—Mando Sallavanti, Founder and Financial Advisor
“A refreshingly sane alternative to the LinkedIn guru circus. Jimmy Lai has created the handbook for getting yourself out there on LinkedIn. Outlined clearly with incremental steps and supportive encouragement, anyone can be a voice or an industry leader. Starting takes small steps and Jimmy’s blueprint proves that posting on LinkedIn is a skill that any professional can master, even a busy attorney running a successful law firm.”
—Alicia Teltz, former Global Client Executive at LinkedIn
“I wrote over 500 posts for lawyers before I ever hit publish on my own profile, so I know that hesitation Jimmy describes in this book’s opening pages better than most. Jimmy’s not selling you a personality transplant—he’s showing you how the traits that make you cautious about self-promotion are the same ones that make people trust you once you finally speak. That’s a rare thing to find in a book about personal branding, and it’s why I’d hand this to any professional who's ever stared at the ‘post’ button and quietly closed the tab instead.”
—Jacob Molina, Founder of Storyleads.io, 10,000+ posts written and 100m impressions gained for attorneys on LinkedIn
“I’ve been on LinkedIn 6 years and only have 21,000 followers. I’m jealous of Jimmy. Don’t buy his book.”
—Kerry Barrett, Emmy Award-Winning Broadcaster
