Every job has a catch.
Someone needs help. There is payment on offer. And there is almost certainly something they have neglected to mention.
Quests, Contracts, and Complications gives you 78 system-neutral random tables for turning a simple offer into an adventure worth playing. Discover who is hiring, what they really want, why the job cannot wait, and what happens when the party starts asking questions.
Inside, you’ll find tools to create:
• Employers with hidden motives and urgent problems.
• Jobs with awkward conditions and rewards worth negotiating.
• Rival interests, obstacles, discoveries, and unexpected complications.
• Consequences for accepting, refusing, or breaking an agreement.
• Follow-up adventures that grow from the party’s decisions.
Use a few rolls when your players take an unexpected turn, or combine the tables to prepare your next session. Worked examples, guidance for six genres, and a reusable quest worksheet help you turn the results into something you can run at the table.
Use it with your preferred tabletop roleplaying system, during preparation or in the middle of play.
Part of the Tabletop Toolkit series by Jasper C. Lock.
Make the offer. Let the players decide what happens next.
