This scholarly study examines the Querolus, a late Latin play, to reveal the quirks of its syntax and its distinctive style. It focuses on how the dialogue and word choices shape meaning, mood, and audience reception in the time of the late Empire.
The book does not claim a definitive author or date, but it closely analyzes linguistic features, parataxis, and rhetorical patterns. Readers will see how scholars weigh clues from the text to discuss origin, date, and regional Latin influences without overstating conclusions.
- Learn how parataxis and conversational flourishes appear in the work
- See how specific Latin words and constructions influence tone and meaning
- Understand how scholars debate authorship, date, and geographical origin
- Discover how linguistic evidence informs broader questions about late Latin comedy
Ideal for readers of Latin language history, medieval and classical syntax, and literary style analysis.
