Ruler. Reformer. Survivor. Elizabeth I was one of the most formidable monarchs to ever wear the English crown.
In this accessible and engaging biography, renowned historian Jacob Abbott explores the dramatic life and reign of Elizabeth I, the last Tudor monarch, in a way that is both informative and enjoyable for readers of all ages. Part of the celebrated Makers of History series, this book brings the Virgin Queen vividly to life—from her tumultuous childhood and imprisonment in the Tower of London, to her triumph over political enemies and her long, stable rule that helped shape modern England.
“I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king.”
Abbott presents Elizabeth’s incredible story with clarity and narrative flair, revealing the intelligence, diplomacy, and strength that allowed her to outmaneuver rivals, survive assassination plots, and lead a golden age of exploration and culture. Readers will encounter iconic historical figures such as Mary Queen of Scots, Philip II of Spain, William Cecil, and others, while gaining a better understanding of the complex political and religious landscape of 16th-century Europe.
Whether you're a student, a history enthusiast, or a fan of powerful female leaders, Elizabeth by Jacob Abbott is the perfect single-volume introduction to one of the most extraordinary rulers in world history.
