Add to basketQuantum computing is often portrayed as a distant scientific curiosity. In reality, it is rapidly becoming one of the most consequential technological revolutions of the twenty-first century.
In The Quantum Future, Bernd Riemann provides a clear and authoritative examination of the technologies, institutions, and geopolitical forces that will define the next era of computation. Moving beyond popular headlines and industry hype, this book explains what quantum computing actually is, why it matters, and how its development could transform the foundations of modern civilization.
From the engineering challenge of building fault-tolerant quantum computers to the global race for technological dominance, the book explores the emerging quantum landscape through the lenses of science, economics, national security, artificial intelligence, cryptography, and public policy. Readers will discover how quantum systems could accelerate drug discovery, revolutionize materials science, reshape financial markets, disrupt cybersecurity, and alter the balance of power between nations.
The Quantum Future also confronts the urgent reality of "Q-Day"—the moment when sufficiently powerful quantum computers threaten today's encryption standards—and examines the worldwide effort to build post-quantum security before that threshold arrives. Along the way, it analyzes the rise of quantum cloud infrastructure, the competition between hardware architectures, the growing importance of technological sovereignty, and the strategic implications of the emerging quantum economy.
Yet this is not merely a book about machines. It is an exploration of how a new computational paradigm may redefine knowledge, decision-making, and humanity's relationship with information itself. As quantum technologies converge with artificial intelligence, advanced sensing, and global digital infrastructure, the consequences will extend far beyond laboratories and data centers.
Written for business leaders, policymakers, investors, technologists, students, and intellectually curious readers, The Quantum Future serves as both a guide to the science and a roadmap to the transformations already beginning to unfold.
The quantum revolution is no longer a distant possibility. It has already begun. The question is not whether it will change the world, but how prepared we are for the world it creates.
