About this Item
Henry Holt & Co., New York, 1893. Probable Second edition. FAIR American Science Series Briefer Course. Copyright page bears date 1893 rather than 1892. Hallmarks are identical to first edition fourth printing of late 1892/early 1893, e.g. 26 lines of text on page 279 vs 21 as characterized the first edition third printing. As the preface notes, James and his publisher wanted a smaller, more manageable student version of the two-volume Principles of Psychology, this revised the work resulted. Ex-library edition, Bowdoin College; it bears numerous pencilled marginal annotations. A bookplate notes it was a gift to the library from Donald K. Clifford, Class of 1921 and is from the library of Professor M. Phillips Mason. Mason taught Psychology and Philosophy at Bowdoin from 1920 until his retirement in 1946. His name also appears in ink on a blank leaf.

Publisher's original pebble-grained embossed brown cloth binding with the series title, American Scinece Series, Briefer Course (top), title and author (middle) and publisher (bottom) in embossed on both the front and rear boards and gilt lettering (faded) for the same on the spine. A fair, copy of this scarce work. All pages present but some are loose, first signature nearly completely free. Seller Inventory # 2006-042

In addition, I believe the service AbeBooks provides?putting these books in front of potenti...
