Very Good, 1st Edition, Association Copy, Eyre Methuen 1978. 4to. viii, 166pp. Association copy, with letter loosely inserted, hand written on Eyre Methuen headed paper to Graham, and signed Geoffrey [presumably Geoffrey Strachan, then Eyre publisher]. The text of the letter makes humorous reference to the infamous TV sketch of British surreal comediens Monty Python; "The All-England Summarize Proust Competition" in which the (male) competitors attempted to summarize Proust, wearing swimming costumes and evening wear! The volume in hand is also signed and dedicated on the endpaper to the same addressee, 'Graham'. [Unable to identify, glad of any suggestions]. This book is very good clean tight sound square, with clean crisp corners and edges. Bound in good bright gilt lettered green cloth, together with unclipped original portrait illustrated dutwrapper very gently rubbed to spine, housed and protected in removable transparent wrapper. "Film director Joseph Losey asked Harold Pinter if he would work on a screenpaly adaptation of Proust's famous sequence of novels. Although alarmed at the prospect, he agreed and the result after a solid year's endeavour is this book".
