Elena Vasquez expected another forgettable rotation on a dying asteroid platform, faulty machinery, stale coffee, and the quiet loneliness of deep space. Nothing ever happens this far from Earth.
Until one of her drones starts behaving... wrong.
The numbers don't agree with physics. The diagnostics don't match reality. And whatever's happening inside the rock they just extracted refuses to stay contained.
As systems begin to misbehave and the station's margins for error vanish, Elena realizes she's no longer dealing with a mechanical glitch or a bad readout. Something ancient has been disturbed. Something that doesn't belong in human hands.
With Earth impossibly far away and help slowed by the limits of light itself, every decision carries consequences she can't fully predict. The equipment wasn't built for this. The protocols don't cover it. And the deeper she digs for answers, the more it feels like whatever she's facing is already aware of her.
Protocol Hail Mary is a high-tension hard science thriller about one ordinary engineer forced to confront an extraordinary unknown, armed with improvised solutions, exhausted judgment, and the stubborn refusal to walk away when everything says she should.
Because sometimes first contact isn't a greeting.
Sometimes it's a warning.
And once it starts, there's no putting it back to sleep.
