This historical document details the legal proceedings of the Protestant Episcopal Church in America concerning the appeal of Reverend Algernon S. Crapsey. Specifically, it is the "Brief for Respondent" in the Court of Review for the Second Judicial Department. Crapsey, a controversial figure, faced a trial within the Diocese of Western New York, and this volume provides valuable insight into the arguments and counter-arguments presented during this ecclesiastical legal battle.

The book offers a glimpse into the internal workings of the Episcopal Church in the late 19th century and the challenges it faced in addressing theological disputes. It is a significant resource for scholars interested in religious history, American church governance, and the life and work of Algernon Sidney Crapsey, whose case remains a notable example of theological and social tensions within the Protestant Episcopal Church.
