Neuware - 'Prophets, Priests and Publicans' is a scholarly and insightful exploration of the religious, social, and political landscape of the Holy Land during the time of Jesus Christ. Written by the esteemed theologian J. P. Arendzen, this work provides a detailed examination of the various groups and institutions that populate the New Testament, offering readers a deeper understanding of the cultural world in which the Gospels were written. The book delves into the complex roles and influences of the Jewish priesthood, the fervency of messianic prophets, and the social stigma surrounding the publicans, or tax collectors. By meticulously analyzing the history, traditions, and beliefs of key sects such as the Pharisees and Sadducees, Arendzen illuminates the spiritual atmosphere and the societal tensions that shaped the ministry of Jesus and the early Church. This volume serves as an invaluable resource for students of biblical history and theology, effectively bridging the gap between academic research and accessible spiritual inquiry. Through clear exposition and historical rigor, 'Prophets, Priests and Publicans' brings the environment of first-century Judea to life, making it an essential companion for anyone seeking to enrich their study of the life and teachings of the New Testament. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
