Philadelphia: Richard Miller, 1890. 4to hardcover in heavily embossed burgundy leather densely decorated to front with gilt scenes of Moses in the arc of bulrushes, Lot's flight from Sodom, Adam and Eve's expulsion from the Garden of Eden, and other key biblical scenes. Gilt titling against blind floral decoration to a sunken central section of both boards. Gilt dentelle edges. Red and gold head- and footbands intact, and AEG. Two brass latches to fore-edge. [8]+[VIII]+[52]+[10]+[16]+[unpaginated]+[16]+[104]+[32]+[16]+1342+[unpaginated]+[16]+[4]+[unpaginated]+[44]+[36] pp. Numerous illustrations, engravings, and colored maps and plates throughout. Reading copy only. Boards detached and spine leather lacking. Some edgewear, and one rear latch bent, with damage to surrounding leather. Layers of head-and footbands separating, and headband loosening from front joint. Preliminary pages (through frontis) detached. Pages toned and brittle. Pages 1023-1026 detached. Flower pressed between pages 1320 and 1321 with some stains to these pages. Some damage to large photo page at rear. Binding remains firm and pages unmarked. Hardcover. Condition: Good. This is such an amazing piece of history. HUGE, heavy, with gigantic, thick tooled leather boards. Spine has more modern leather, professionally repaired at some point. Some rubbing to board eges. The pages for family records have almost 100 years of history and there are two late 1800s/early 1900s photographs in the binded in frames at the back. The spine has been neatly restored, preserving most of the original leather. The corners are scuffed, and the bottom edge of the first blank endpaper is worn. Early owner's inscription on a front endpaper, dated 1902. Light foxing on the plates; otherwise, text clean and binding secure. A deluxe edition of the King James Bible with concordance and family record section, which has not been filled out. Illustrated in both color and black and white. Measures approx. 12.75" x 10.25".
