Gary Turner's Guitar Method For Young Beginners: Book 2 is an easy guitar instruction songbook for young beginners ready to continue developing their playing. Building naturally on early guitar skills, this method book combines approachable songs with new notes, simplified chord shapes and rhythm concepts, giving developing players varied material for regular practice while keeping the music accessible and enjoyable.
The book introduces five new notes, E, F, G, D and F sharp, alongside five simplified chord shapes and more than 20 very easy song arrangements. Players are also introduced to eighth notes, eighth-note strum patterns and dotted quarter notes, extending both melodic and rhythmic experience. Video demonstrations for all exercises are available free online, providing an additional reference when working through the material at home or alongside a teacher.
Familiar melodies help connect new guitar techniques with music young players can quickly recognise. The combination of note playing, chords and strumming gives beginners opportunities to develop coordination, timing and musical confidence without moving too quickly beyond an introductory level. Short, accessible arrangements can also make practice feel more purposeful as newly learned notes and rhythms become part of complete songs.
Song List
Pop Goes the Weasel * For He's a Jolly Good Fellow * Michael Finnegan * The Muffin Man * London Bridge
Suitable for young guitar learners progressing beyond their first lessons, this method book can support independent learning, structured tuition and shared practice with a parent or teacher. Its blend of familiar songs and progressive guitar material also makes it a thoughtful gift for a young beginner who is developing an interest in playing music.
