Industrial automation is becoming increasingly software-driven, and Raspberry Pi has emerged as a powerful platform for developing flexible, connected, and cost-effective control systems. This book explores modern industrial programming using Python, Node-RED, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, MQTT, RS485, industrial networking, data logging, dashboards, and real-world communication architectures. Designed with long-term relevance in mind, it focuses on engineering principles and proven implementation practices that remain valuable as industrial technologies continue to evolve.
Written as a professional engineering guide rather than a collection of disconnected tutorials, this book combines software engineering best practices with practical industrial automation techniques. It emphasizes reliability, maintainability, cybersecurity, fault tolerance, structured application design, industrial communication, and production-ready deployment, giving readers the knowledge needed to build dependable automation software for real-world environments.
Whether you are developing industrial monitoring applications, building machine control software, integrating field devices, or creating connected automation systems, this book provides a structured learning path from foundational programming concepts to complete industrial applications. You'll learn how to build scalable Python projects, communicate with industrial devices, design Node-RED dashboards, implement reliable messaging systems, collect and analyze operational data, and develop maintainable automation software using modern engineering practices.
What's Inside:- Industrial software architecture and automation programming principles
- Python programming for industrial control applications
- Digital and analog I/O programming
- RS485 serial communications and Modbus RTU
- Modbus TCP for Ethernet-based automation
- MQTT messaging for Industrial IoT systems
- Node-RED workflows and interactive dashboards
- Industrial networking fundamentals
- Data acquisition, validation, logging, and reporting
- Database integration and historical trend analysis
- Industrial cybersecurity fundamentals
- Error handling, diagnostics, testing, and fault recovery
- Production-ready software design and deployment
- Real-world industrial automation programming projects
This book is ideal for industrial automation engineers, controls engineers, PLC programmers, software developers, Industrial IoT professionals, systems integrators, electrical engineers, Raspberry Pi developers, engineering students, technical educators, and makers who want to build reliable industrial automation applications using modern programming tools and open technologies.
Software continues to transform manufacturing, process automation, smart factories, industrial networking, and connected operations. The programming skills taught in this book are applicable across industries and provide a solid foundation for Industrial IoT, edge computing, data acquisition, industrial communication, and future automation technologies, making this a valuable long-term reference rather than a short-lived technology guide.
If you're ready to advance from basic scripting to professional industrial automation software development, Programming Industrial Automation with Raspberry Pi 5 provides the practical knowledge, engineering insight, and real-world examples you need. Start building reliable, maintainable, and scalable industrial control systems with confidence using Python, Node-RED, Modbus, MQTT, RS485, and modern industrial networking techniques.
