C# Programming with AI is the complete beginner-to-practitioner guide for developers who want to learn C# and immediately apply it in the era of modern AI. Written for 2026, this book takes you from your very first variable all the way to deploying intelligent, production-ready applications powered by AI APIs, Semantic Kernel, and ML.NET.
Whether you're new to programming entirely or transitioning from another language, this book meets you where you are. Author Thomas Scott — a C# developer with over a decade of experience — has crafted a structured, hands-on journey that builds real skills, not just toy examples.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
• C# fundamentals: variables, types, methods, classes, and object-oriented programming
• Advanced topics including async/await, LINQ, generics, and dependency injection
• How to call AI APIs and engineer effective prompts inside C# workflows
• Semantic search, embeddings, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
• Building AI-powered chatbots with persistent memory
• Machine learning with ML.NET — no Python required
• REST API development with ASP.NET Core
• Working with databases, authentication, logging, and deployment
• Autonomous AI agents using Semantic Kernel
• Three complete real-world projects: an AI task assistant, a smart customer support chatbot, and an AI document summarizer
WHY THIS BOOK:
C# is a first-class language in the Microsoft AI ecosystem. With deep integration into Azure AI, Semantic Kernel, and ML.NET, C# developers have powerful, production-grade AI tools at their fingertips. This is the book that shows you how to use them — from first principles to finished product.
The 2026 Edition covers C# 13, .NET 9, and the latest developments in AI tooling, ensuring everything you learn is current and career-relevant.
Includes comprehensive appendices covering C# syntax, LINQ, async patterns, AI integration, dotnet CLI, NuGet packages, unit testing, and a full glossary of key terms.
Perfect for: career changers, computer science students, developers from other languages, and anyone who wants to build intelligent software with Microsoft's most powerful ecosystem.
