Print on Demand. This book presents proceedings from the Southern Rhodesia Missionary Conference of 1936. The annual gathering was convened by various religious denominations and included the Methodist, Anglican, and Dutch Reformed Churches. Prominent topics of the day included: education, particularly Native Education, the role of missions in the emerging indigenous Church, and the ongoing development of higher education for natives. Other noteworthy subjects were co-operation between Europeans and Africans; new medical services for rural natives; and the marketing of native produce, notably cotton. The book's contents bridge topics that are historical, current for the period, and even prescient by today's standards. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

The success of the Conference was enhanced by two very pleasant social functions, Wth will no doubt be long remem bered by the members of the Conference, viz. The most enjoyable Social Evening arranged for the delegates by the City Council of Salisbury. And the kind invitation from His Excellency and Lady Stanley to Government House at Sun down on Thursday afternoon, when special arrangements were made to enable the members of the Conference to Witness the interesting ceremony of the Changing of the Guard. One has great pleasure in placing on record the genuine appre ciation of the whole Conference towards both sii' Herbert and Lady Stanley, and His Worship the Mayor of Salisbury for the kind motives which inspired and carried into effect these very pleasant entertainments.
