This book presents selected papers from the 6th International Conference on Rehabilitation and Maintenance in Civil Engineering (6th ICRMCE) on July 4–5, 2024, at Mataram, Indonesia. The papers cover topics related to developing and maintaining a sustainable built environment to mitigate the environmental impacts of human activities and create a healthier and more resilient future. This is achieved through infrastructure development and maintenance issues from various perspectives and is brought together under the theme of policy, design, construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance for a sustainable built environment. Readers will gain a deeper understanding of how to identify and solve issues related to infrastructure design, construction, use, and maintenance toward realizing a sustainable built environment by tapping into various fields' expertise within civil engineering such as material, structural, geotechnical, transportation, water resources, and construction management.

About the Author
Professor Stefanus Adi Kristiawan is a leading expert in civil engineering, currently serving as a professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Sebelas Maret, Indonesia. His extensive academic and research contributions have advanced the fields of structural engineering and material sciences, particularly in developing innovative solutions for infrastructure resilience. Prof. Kristiawan began his academic journey with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Sebelas Maret in 1995. He later pursued higher education at the University of Leeds, UK, earning an M.Sc. (Eng) in Strengthening and Maintenance of Civil Engineering Structures in 1998, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in 2003.
Professor Keh-Chyuan Tsai is a distinguished professor of Civil Engineering at the National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan. Renowned for his expertise in steel structures, structural dynamics, and earthquake-resistant design, he has significantly contributed to advancing safer and more resilient buildings in seismic regions. Earning his Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, Prof. Tsai cultivated a passion for addressing seismic challenges early in his career. His research has since focused on innovative structural systems and performance evaluation methods to enhance earthquake resilience.
Professor Dr. Mohamed Shahin is a professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Curtin University, Australia. An expert in computational geomechanics, ground improvement, and railway geotechnology, he has significantly contributed to advancing sustainable practices and innovative techniques in geotechnical engineering. Prof. Shahin began his academic journey at Cairo University, Egypt, where he earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Civil Engineering.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Mohd.Sam is an accomplished academic who serves as an associate professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. With a rich background in concrete technology, advanced composite materials, and cement replacement materials, Dr. Abdul Rahman has made notable contributions to the field of sustainable construction materials and engineering. Dr. Abdul Rahman began his academic journey at California State University, Sacramento, where he earned his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering. He continued his studies at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), earning his M.Sc. before pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of Sheffield, UK.
Dr. Pham Dinh Hai is a dedicated lecturer at the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Vietnam, specializing in Earthquake Resistance Design. With a Ph.D. from National Taiwan University, he is an expert in seismic design and structural engineering, focusing on improving buildings' resilience to earthquakes. Dr. Pham Dinh Hai's research primarily focuses on innovative earthquake-resistant structural systems. His work has contributed significantly to understanding the behavior and performance of buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) and self-centering braces (SCBs) in steel buildings. Dr. Pham Dinh Hai has also been involved in full-scale testing, including testing full-scale two-story steel frames with self-centering and buckling-restrained braces.
