Item description from seller

Fascinating early edition of the highly regarded First World War story from Australian author and poet Frederic Manning. Early edition, reprinted in the same month as the first edition. In publisher's original cloth binding.Fictional account of the Somme and Ancre fronts towards the end of 1916, written by Australian author and poet Frederic Manning, also known for Scenes and Portraits (1909), under the guise of "Private 19022". The text was originally published as the limited-edition The Middle Parts of Fortune in 1929 and encapsulates the experiences of ordinary soldiers during the First World War. In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with slight bumping and rubbing, leading to minor loss of cloth at head and tail of spine, and noticeable marking to boards. Internally, generally firmly bound with binding a little fragile in places, namely to pages 112-113, 160-161 and 208-209. Bright and clean with the odd spot, heavier to the first and last few pages. Very Good.
