Review
"This is a wonderful book. It clearly and cogently presents readers with the realities of today's prisons, along with the philosophies and policies responsible for their current form."--William E. Harver, Widener University
"The book is clear, informative, and well written. The liberal use of quotes shows how individuals (inmates and staff members) experience and interpret imprisonment--and gives balance to the data and historical trends which the author reports on."--Charles Hanna, Duquesne University
"I praise the author for her ability to introduce students to the 'here-and-now' world of correctional literature by introducing many timely correctional topics.... The book is a refreshing change, providing very current research and information."--Christopher Hensley, Morehead State University
