Item description from seller

One of a lovely series of classic books for young readers illustrated by famous artists of the day, here, Jessie Willcox Smith, who contributed the title page, decorative endpapers, front pastedown, & 8 full-color, full-page interior plates, all in near pristine condition, with vivid colors & bright white margins, some with a hint of tanning &/or foxing. A few are pulling loose from binding. A FIRST in this format with these illustrations from 1920 (First, thus), in 203 pages. With soft green cloth over boards, lettered in dark blue to front & spine, with a colorful front paper pastedown by Smith (which shows many small chips around edges & some scratching), this hardcover (7" x 9.25") is in Fair condition: generally very clean with the occasional spot or smudge inside. Pages show age-appropriate tanning, heavier to edges, unmarked save for old gift inscription dated 1938 to second free front endpaper. The stitched text block is solid & secure, but both hinges have cracked. Externally, this is rubbing to extremities, heaviest along spine & all corners, with some cloth loss & fraying. Some bleached stains to rear board. But the story & illustrations are as beautiful as ever! Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping if ordered by 2 pm weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next day. …
