An illustrated account purportedly telling of certain scenes and events in the life of Jesus in Jerusalem. The narrative takes the form of a ". . .series of the letters of Adina, a Jewess of Alexandria, supposed to be sojourning in Jerusalem in the days of Herod. . ." Events are described, from the baptism of Jesus through his crucifixion at Calvary. With a handful of plates bearing engraved illustrations, included tissue-guarded images of Christ and of John the Baptist. First appearing in 1847, this 1884 reprint has been revised and corrected by the author. --- In full dark green cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped oval image of a woman to front cover (perhaps Adina). Also with elaborate illustrations & decorations stamped in gilt to spine. --- A well-preserved, sound copy, though with mild chafing to cover extremities and tears to paper at front gutter (which doesn't affect the stability of the binding).; 12mo - 7 to 7-1/2 in. tall; xxiv, [1], 26-472, [4, ads] pages.
