ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
The most thrilling novel by an author with "one of the most solid literary careers in the national scene" (El Cultural), and winner of the Nadal and Herralde awards.
"I believe that, since Juan Benet... there hasn't been such a powerful prose amongst us." --Rafael Conte, El País
"They could kiss, sure, but that would only relieve them for a while... Except they decided to die kissing."
Can we still love after having our hearts broken? How often can someone fall in love like the first time? Does time heal love's wounds? This novel, starring a young man experiencing his first passion, addresses all these issues: the cascading violence with which infatuation occurs; the lack of resources the individual has against experience, and the trace it leaves for the rest of his life. A love story and a quest that comprises almost five decades in the lives of its protagonists and their nation.
With the kind of narrative tension that grips your heart, Gándara wanders through the territory where he has proven to be a great master--the land of complex human emotions.
