If you want to prevent puppy separation anxiety (and you do!) ... then keep reading ...
Be aware; the so-called 'teaching-puppy-to-be-alone-training', is one of the most underestimated and often forgotten while training a puppy.
If you do NOT practice the 'teaching-puppy-to-be-alone-training', there is a chance for the puppy to develop separation anxiety.
Dogs can suffer from 2 different types of separation anxiety:
- The worst kind of separation anxiety is the type that makes a puppy unable to be without the company of one specific person. The puppy develops a stress response as soon as the person it has grown attached to is out of sight. This could happen when that person leaves the house, but leaving the room could also trigger the stress response. This individual can't be replaced by someone else.
- A slightly milder type of separation anxiety, but a troublesome one nonetheless, occurs when a puppy develops a stress response as soon as it is alone. This isn't necessarily linked to any single person. The mere thought of being left alone is enough to make the puppy anxious.
The consequences of separation anxiety (you don't want this to happen!):
- Your dog will become insecure
- It may start to bark a lot
- It could develop destructive tendencies
- Become emotionally demanding
- Or even aggressive.
- Also, separation anxiety may cause your dog to lose its house-training discipline.
- A dog with separation anxiety—no matter which type—can be a severe burden to you and your daily schedule. It's challenging to deal with a puppy that freaks out as soon as it loses sight of you.
- For the puppy, on the other hand, separation anxiety means feeling miserable and insecure whenever you leave it alone.
Reading this book will teach you what steps you'll need to take to turn your puppy into a relaxed dog that has no problems with being alone for a while.
For this book, I have interviewed a total of 7 dog experts. I asked every one of the experts 76 questions related to separation anxiety subjects.
In this book, you will discover:
- Why a dog can develop separation anxiety
- The 16 signals of separation anxiety
- How to introduce your puppy to its new home
- Where the puppy will sleep the first few nights
- When the teaching-puppy-to-be-alone training will start
- Whether or not you should take time off from your work
- The 6 steps of the teaching-puppy-to-be-alone training
- How long a puppy can and should be alone
- A full outline of how long a puppy of 8 weeks to 30 weeks can be home alone
- Exclusive tips and tricks when you leave your puppy home alone
- The best ritual for coming and leaving home
- What to do when you are not at home
- Whether or not you should give your puppy dog toys before you leave
