Paperback. African languages act as archives of identity, memory, and history. Embedded in their languages are centuries of knowledge, values, and worldviews passed down through generations. From oral storytelling and proverbs to rituals and everyday speech, these languages preserve the experiences of communities often lost to time. In an era of globalization, preserving African languages is essential for maintaining cultural identity while also safeguarding the historical narratives and wisdom they carry. Preserving Identity and History With African Languages explores the revitalization of African languages, framing indigenous languages as the foundation for historical knowledge, spiritual traditions, and cultural survival. It provides practical strategies for language preservation, drawing on grassroots movement, legislative recommendations, and case studies. This book covers topics such as linguistic heritage, cultural identity, and globalization, and is a useful resource for historians, linguists, educators, academicians, researchers, and scientists. Oluwatoyin Ayodele Ajani is a distinguished scholar, educator, and researcher specializing in curriculum studies, higher education, digital education, and language pedagogy. Currently a lecturer at the University of Zululand, South Africa, Dr. Ajani has dedicated his academic career to advancing research on education transformation, digital inclusion, and linguistic diversity in Africa. With a Ph.D. in Curriculum Studies, his work critically explores the intersections of education policy, technology, and multilingualism, making him a key contributor to global conversations on educational equity and language preservation. A prolific researcher with an h-index of 17 and over 1,000 citations, Dr. Ajani has published extensively on decolonizing education, digital learning integration, and the socio-economic impact of language policies in Africa. His work, including “Decolonising Teacher Education Curriculum in South Africa: The Realities and Challenges in Higher Education,” offers a critical analysis of colonial legacies in African education and their implications for indigenous language preservation. Similarly, his research on curriculum transformation and digital education strategies in Africa highlights the urgent need for culturally responsive teaching methods. Beyond academia, Dr. Ajani is an active mentor, policy advisor, and educational consultant, working closely with government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations to promote inclusive education and language sustainability. His interdisciplinary expertise makes him a valuable editor to Cultural DNA: How African Languages Preserve Identity and History, aligning seamlessly with UNESCO’s Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-2032). His research-driven and policy-focused approach ensures that his work has both theoretical depth and real-world impact, bridging academic scholarship with practical advocacy for linguistic diversity.
