About the Author: Ellen Galinsky is the co-president of the new Families and Work Institute in New York City and was recently elected president of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. She has been the director of the Work and Family Life Studies Project at the Bank Street College of Education in New York since 1981.

Judy David is a research associate on the Work and Family Life Studies Project at the Bank Street College of Education.
