Synopsis:

Preparing for Victory explains how and why Commandant Thomas Holcomb successfully supervised the expansion of the Marine Corps from 18,000 officers and men in 1936 to 385,000 in 1943. Not only did Holcomb leave the Corps much larger, but he also helped establish it as the United States' premier amphibious assault force.

About the Author:

David J. Ulbrich is a historian at the U.S. Army Engineer School at Ft. Leonard, MO. and senior instructor in Norwich University’s master’s in military history program. He received the 2003-2004 General Lemuel Shepherd Dissertation Fellowship from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. Ulbrich earned his doctorate in history at Temple University.
