Print on Demand. This meticulously crafted book invites readers to penetrate the depths of preparing probationers for full membership in the Methodist Episcopal Church. The author, a seasoned Methodist minister, draws on extensive experience and observation to shed light on this crucial aspect of church life. Delving into the historical roots of probationary practice, the book traces its origins back to the early Christian church and examines its subsequent adoption by Methodism. The author emphasizes its purpose not only as a means to prevent unworthy persons from infiltrating the church, but more importantly, to provide a structured period of instruction and preparation for candidates seeking to assume the vows of membership. Beyond the historical and ecclesiastical significance, the book highlights the theological and spiritual implications of probation. The author argues that preparing probationers is essential for their own edification, as it equips them with a firm understanding of the church's doctrines, rules, and expectations, fostering a deep sense of personal responsibility and commitment. The author proposes a comprehensive system for the care and training of probationers, outlining the roles of pastors, leaders, and the congregation. They delve into the various forms of instruction and guidance needed to nurture spiritual growth, including biblical study, doctrinal exploration, and practical guidance in Christian living. Emphasizing the importance of creating a supportive and welcoming environment, the book encourages churches to embrace probationers as valued members from the outset, fostering their integration into the church community. This insightful and practical book offers invaluable guidance for pastors, church leaders, and anyone interested in the spiritual well-being of the Methodist Church. Its insights on preparing probationers not only strengthen the church but also contribute to the personal growth and spiritual maturity of its members. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

This little book is written from the viewpoint of one who after extensive service in city pastorates has been permitted to travel widely among the churches of Methodism. It is therefore the product of experience modified by observation and reflection. The practical and the theoretical are so woven together that each finds support in the other. If visionary schemes may not be followed it is equally unwise to confine effort to that which has been done. It is always prop er to push beyond the actual into the possible.
In the present condition of religious education and life it may not be possible to carry out the plans set forth in chap ters iii, vii, and viii, in all their details, except in a few highly favored churches. This plan is intended to represent an ideal toward which all pastors should labor.
