Sarai is your typical grandmother. Thoughtful, kind, and perhaps a tad overbearing.

She's also been dead for nearly 12 years.

Now serving as a youthful, sword-wielding guardian angel, she's sworn to protect her granddaughter, Daniela, from the forces of darkness ravaging the mortal world.

Invisibly prompting humans to do good is no easy task, but Sarai's job gets a lot more complicated when Daniela begins her senior year of high school without her best friend. Temptations abound, and bullies lie in wait with their assigned demons, led by a new evil beyond anything Sarai has ever faced before. Can she save her granddaughter from embracing the darkness, or will Daniela's soul be lost to Inferno forever?

Set approximately eight years before the events of Memoirs of a Household Demon, this is a tale about one family's struggle to overcome loss and do what is right despite societal pressures. It follows the angel Sarai as she tries to navigate Daniela's emotions, acting as the girl's conscience in a world where spirits compete for influence over the living. A blend of action, humor and heart, the story offers an insightful look into human behavior through the lens of an immortal being.

Prelude of a Guardian Angel is both a standalone story in the Gray Spirits universe and a complementary prequel to the main series. You do not need to have read the other works to enjoy this novella.
