Print on Demand. This book, a historic analysis of the geological history of Connecticut, is also a seminal examination of US geology. Presented as a detailed geological map with a written study, the author elucidates the complex and fascinating geological events which shaped the state over eons. Beginning with an overview of geological study in Connecticut, from its origins during the early 19th century to the establishment in 1903 of a state geological survey, the book includes maps by the author and other leading geologists of the day. The report summarizes all previous geological work in the state. With an emphasis on economic products like building stones, clays, ores and minerals as well as animal and plant life, it includes both general and detailed descriptions of the geology and natural history of the state. Each chapter is illustrated with maps to aid comprehension. Throughout, the author's skillful use of clear language makes this book suitable for both academic and general readers. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The small scale used for the Preliminary Geological Map, Of Connecticut makes it impracticable to represent all the rock groups, and to give credit on the map itself to the indi viduals and organizations whose assistance has made the map possible. The following pages have therefore been written to make the map more intelligible, and to explain its method of compilation, its value, and its deficiencies. This Bulletin has also been thought to be a suitable place to present a brief account Of the history Of geologic work in Connecticut. The imperfection Of the map here with presented is manifest, and the authors will be thankful for any information which will tend to make the knowledge Of Connecticut geology more complete and more accessible.
