Item description from seller

Print on Demand. This book introduces a regeneration model for use with the Prognosis Model, a forest growth and yield model used by land managers in the western United States. The regeneration model predicts the establishment of new trees for various combinations of regeneration methods, site preparation, habitat types, and budworm defoliation histories. The author developed the regeneration model based on data collected from a retrospective examination of managed stands in Idaho and Montana. The model predicts the probability of stocking, number of trees per acre, number of species per acre, and seedling heights. The model considers the influence of western spruce budworm on regeneration success, as well as various site preparation methods. These factors enable the user to compare alternative silvicultural prescriptions to determine which one best meets management objectives. The model helps managers decide which prescriptions best meet reforestation objectives, link regeneration to predictions of long-term growth and yield, and predict regeneration in long-term projections of succession or uneven-age management. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.
