Two volumes, octavo (21.5 x 13.5cm). The seventh edition, with corrections and improvements. 'One of the most valuable books for the improvement of young minds that has appeared in any language. The preface (and The Vision of Theodore, the Hermit of Teneriffe, Found in his Cell) were written by Samuel Johnson.'- Lowndes. Vol. I, pp. [2],l,5-414,[4]; Vol. II, pp. [ii],560. With two frontispieces, five folding hand coloured maps & 29 folding copper plates. Some of the plates creased, one with a marginal closed tear, no loss. The first volume affected by light lower marginal damp-staining. Bound in contemporary tree calf, with labels, gilt, the spine ends slighty worn.
