A promotional view book, with the date of 1900 inferred from the publishers printing of a line drawing for the New Baptist Church instead of a photo, as it was "still under construction" [caption] and with "Calgary, Alberta" printed in the credits on the verso of front cover. Alberta was originally established as a provisional district of the North West Territories in 1882 and became a province in 1905. Pictorial wraps, string bound with publisher's green tape spine, oblong 32mo size (4.75 inches tall), pp. unpaginated [214], illustrated throughout w. mostly fine and interesting B&W photo reproductions of the young city, its surrounds and inhabitants. Views consist of firemen, nurses, businessmen, sports teams and sporting events, groups of first nations and their abodes, buildings, churches, civilian residents, police, street views, railroad, etc., filling virtually every page. An occasional explanatory text page or line drawing is also present if a building like the New Baptist Church (1900) was then currently under construction. Volume covers worn with tears and chips, one tape repair to each cover, large chip from lower cover, text block w. soil and spotting - mostly to first and last few leaves, text block slightly rolled. Some photos are dated in the later 1880s and 1890s. A fair, but complete copy of an early and uncommon Calgary view book. Seller Inventory # 4510
