Hardcover with beveled boards, full green cloth with blindstamped frames to each cover, central gilt image and lettering to front cover, gilt lettering and deco-rative rules to spine, grey clay-coated endpapers, 7-5/8" tall, 304 pp., illustrated with in-text drawings. Slight rub-bing to spine panel, slight wear to spine ends and tips, two small soil marks to rear cover, owner's label to front endpaper, moderate foxing. "Bound by Leighton Son and Hodge" label at rear endpapers. The cover has a surprisingly modernist feel with its simple image, in an era when more elaborate designs were to be expected. Waterhouse, Bookseller, Bradford" of some age at upper outer corner of front pastedown. Backstrip a little darkened, and a little nicked at head and foot. Front hinge with open split of length 1" (2.5cm) from head. Shelf edges of covers a little rubbed; tips of lower outer corners lightly worn, tips of upper outer corners lightly rubbed. Endpapers split along hinges. No dust jacket. Edges of text-block toned, top edge also dust-marked. Binding holding firmly; contents clean and tight, if a little toned towards edges. GOOD copy.
