Print on Demand. This book, an early veterinary text published in 1807, offers a practical exploration of the complexities of breeding and birthing in cattle. The author, an experienced and innovative practitioner, provides a comprehensive guide to the signs and symptoms of successful conception, growth, and impending labor. In addition, the book contains a detailed analysis of the internal anatomy of the relevant reproductive organs, illustrated with plates, and explores how conception occurs and how the cow nourishes the fetus. The author presents methods for extracting a calf in the event of a difficult birth and provides insights into common diseases affecting cattle during pregnancy, with instructions for their treatment. This book is a valuable resource for farmers, breeders, and veterinarians seeking practical guidance on cattle breeding and care during pregnancy and birth. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. This handbook offers clear, hands-on instruction on preparing for calving, managing gestation, and treating common diseases of neat cattle. It presents practical rules and observations to help farmers and veterinarians act with confidence during the crucial period of birth and beyond. Rich with step-by-step techniques and illustrated plates, it aims to simplify complex cattle care into workable routines.
The book is divided into two parts: the first covers the cow during pregnancy and delivery, including how to recognize signs of coming calving and how to handle difficult births. The second part surveys diseases that can affect cattle, with accessible treatments and dosing guidance designed for real-world use on farms. The author emphasizes practical remedies, careful management, and a clear, systematic approach to care, suitable for those working with dairy cattle in everyday settings.

- Effective treatment strategies for common postpartum issues and uterine conditions
- Practical dosing guidelines and safe, field-tested remedies
- Illustrated plates and explanations to visualize anatomy and procedures
Ideal for farmers, cowkeepers, and anyone responsible for cattle health who wants straightforward, reliable guidance grounded in experience.
