Paperback. The people you serve believe you have more power than you do. And sometimes, so do you. Community mental health workers carry a responsibility that is real, significant, and often misunderstood by the people they serve, the systems they work inside, and themselves. The pressure to be the expert, to have all the answers, to hold it all together can quietly distort what helping actually is and what it was ever meant to be. In The Power People Think We Have, Cliffard Mayo invites helpers to examine the gap between the power others project onto them and the human reality of who they actually are. With honesty and pastoral warmth, he reframes presence as the quiet strength that shapes every interaction and humility not as shrinking but as opening. He asks the questions most professional development training never reaches: What are you actually responsible for? What does genuine help look like when you stop trying to be everything to everyone? What becomes possible when two humans meet in the same room without pretense? This is a book about identity, responsibility, and the extraordinary power of showing up as yourself. Each chapter includes reflection questions designed for personal growth, supervision groups, and professional development training. This item is printed on demand.
