Second Edition; Second Printing. Exlibrary marks. Sound binding and hinges. Pages lightly tanned with occasional notes in pencil on a few pages. Paper over boards is heavily edge worn with overall shelf wear as well. Chipping to extremities of spine and heavy wear to corners. Important work by Richard Bartlett Gregg (1885-1974), an American social philosopher said to be "the first American to develop a substantial theory of nonviolent resistance" based on the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, and so influenced the thinking of Martin Luther King Jr., Aldous Huxley, civil-rights theorist Bayard Rustin, the pacifist and socialist reformer Jessie Wallace Hughan, and the Peace Pledge Union.
