It begins with the definition and theory of power grid resilience and then extends to cover the full spectrum of power grid resilience, ranging from planning to operation including system hardening, mitigation, and restoration. Practical case studies on both the bulk power system and distribution networks are included to illustrate how adaptive measures can be taken to improve the grid resilience against large-scale events.
Power Grid Resilience: Theory and Applications is a state-of-the-art guide that is essential reading for practicing engineers, researchers, and scientists working in the power and energy industry. The book is also useful as a reference for undergraduate and graduate students studying power systems.
Jianhui Wang, Ph.D., is the Mary and Richard Templeton Centennial Chair Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Lyle School of Engineering, Southern Methodist University. Dr. Wang is the Principal Investigator on a multitude of energy-related research projects focused on smart grids, microgrids, power system operation and control, renewable integration, grid resilience, and cybersecurity. He is the past Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid (2015-2019). Dr. Wang is an IEEE Fellow, an IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Distinguished Lecturer, and the Past Chair of the IEEE PES Power System Operations, Planning & Economics (PSOPE) committee. He is the recipient of the IEEE PES Power System Operation Committee Prize Paper Award in 2015, the 2018 Premium Award for Best Paper in IET Cyber-Physical Systems: Theory & Applications, the Best Paper Award in IEEE Transactions on Power Systems in 2020, the IEEE PSOPE Committee Best Paper Award in 2021, and the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems Outstanding Paper Award in 2023. Dr. Wang is a 2018-2023 Clarivate Analytics highly cited researcher for the production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in Web of Science.
