Item description from seller

See photos for condition details. Hardcover, brick red cloth boards with large paper label on front. Exterior shows minor handling along with some scuffing and spotting, corners show light bumping/wear and the exterior page edges (textblock) shows foxing spots. The internal binding is good at the boards although there is some pulling at the half title page and there is a crack starting at page 8/9 (see photo). Both the front end page and pastedown have signatures written in pencil, no other handwriting found. Pages are mildly toned but are overall clean, with the exception of the end pages and pastedowns which shows some light spotting. There is also spotting present where there are illustration pages - this also includes the title page because of the frontispiece. The dates on the copyright page show previous times the book was published in magazines before appearing in book form by Appleton. The last text page has their printing code of (2).
