"This is the second volume in a two-volume issue of Yale French Studies devoted to questions of identity and modernity in France and in the French-speaking areas of North and West Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Vietnam and the Indian Ocean. A variety of scholars address issues of language and nationalism, displacement, exile, and transculturation resulting from the legacy of colonialism.
