DEUTSCHE BESCHREIBUNG

Ports of Call – Technische Dokumentation eines Amiga-Klassikers

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Ports of Call – Technical Documentation of a Classic Amiga Game

This book is aimed at game developers, retro computing enthusiasts, game design students, and experienced players of the classic.

Originally released in 1985 for the Amiga, Ports of Call became a landmark economic simulation with an integrated ship handling simulator. Over the years, extended versions such as POC XXL, POCSIM3D/3DI, Deluxe Editions, and releases for PC and mobile platforms followed.

This volume is not primarily an anecdotal fan book, but a technically focused documentation of the game’s development and evolution.

The book includes:

– Original design blueprints
– Early scripts and concept papers
– Original texts with English translations
– Code fragments and development excerpts
– Flowcharts and internal logic structures
– Documentation of hidden game mechanics
– Analysis of the economic simulation model
– Technical insight into the weather simulation system
– Development of the graphical user interface

Special emphasis has been placed on preserving and reproducing authentic historical materials, including original drawings, handwritten notes, and early design stages.

In addition, the book contains practical tips and background insights for dedicated players, such as how to rescue the shipwrecked sailor and how to optimize profits within the simulation.

Ports of Call is also used in academic contexts to illustrate economic decision-making through simulation models.

This book serves as a technical historical reference for structured simulation game development, offering valuable insights for developers and technically oriented readers, while also providing in-depth material for experienced fans.
